Mortal Coil has been working with Tsatsu Stalqayu since 2010, when the group first performed with the company in Salmon Row.
During that time, we have collaborated on two productions, the remount of Salmon Row in 2013 and The Faerie Play in 2015, have secured a City of Vancouver artist studio for the use of Iona Paul and her work with textiles, built and shown Meh throughout the region and begun collaboration on a new show, First Contact.
On the weekend of April 13 and 14, 2019, Tsatsu Stalqayu recorded their first CD at the Uzume Taiko studios with Mortal Coil producing. The CD, comprised of all original work, is to be released this summer in time for the Vancouver International Folk Music Festival and the summer Powwow season.
The Coastal Wolfpack has also obtained stories that will be developed into performance pieces with the first, a Tsarlip creation myth, slated for unveiling this summer. In a unique and compelling partnership, Tsatsu Stalqayu and Mortal Coil will bring a whole new work to the stage that combines First Nations dance, song and storytelling with settler, production and dramaturgical sensibility.
