The Faerie Play

Mortal Coil is proud to announce its next site specific production, The Faerie Play.  Produced in partnership with the City of Richmond and the Sharing Farm in Terra Nova Park, The Faerie Play is a show for families that follows the adventures of a group of children, one of whom has been stolen by the resident fairies on the Farm.  Designed to introduce urban families to all farm occupants, The Faerie Play uses music, puppets, children and farmers interacting with each other and the audience in order to find the missing child and to explore the many sites that exist on a working farm.

While searching for the lost girl, the audience is lead through the farm learning the secrets of the land meeting raptors, voles, daisies and potatoes that live on the Sharing Farm through Frank Rader and Iona Paul and Joseph Paul's wonderful puppets as they solve the mystery at the sunflower circle. The play takes place when farm work is actually being done giving the audience an opportunity to interact with the farmers enhancing the understanding of nature and the importance of growing food.

The Faerie Play reunites the artistic team that brought you the wildly successful Salmon Row.  As with Salmon Row, this production is inspired by another one of Richmond's evocative and beautiful locations, the Sharing Farm in Terra Nova Park.

This production brings together again the team who brought you the hit Salmon Row. Peter Hall is Directing, Frank Rader is puppet master and maker, members of Tsatsu Stalqayu Coastal Wolfpack will be both performing in the play and also designing puppets and Barbara Clayden is again designing costumes for the production. Utilizing puppets, stilts, music and actors, this play takes the audience through the site to share the secrets of the land and its residents. As with Salmon Row, also included in the production are members of the Richmond Gateway Academy and children from the Richmond area.

The play takes place when farm work is actually being done giving the audience an opportunity to interact with the farmers enhancing the understanding of nature and the importance of growing food.  After the show the audience is invited to join the performers and farmers to share tea in the garden, giving everyone a chance to share their experiences. There will also be light snacks available from the cob oven, in between the performances.

The Sharing Farm is a local not for profit organic farm whose mandate is to have volunteers growing and harvesting fruits and vegetables for families in need.  It initiated a partnership with Mortal Coil in March of 2014 to develop a site specific piece of theatre in order to spread the message of farms and their importance to the modern world.  For more information on the Sharing Farm, please go to www.sharingfarm.ca
